WoW Midnight Secret & Hidden Mounts Guide: Every Mount Nobody Tells You About
10 min read
Midnight has over 60 mounts and Blizzard was pretty open about most of them. Raid drops, M+ rating rewards, renown vendors, all clearly documented in the achievement panel or buyable from an NPC with a big yellow exclamation mark over their head. Hard to miss.
But then there's the other, the secret ones. The mounts that don't show up in your quest log, don't have breadcrumb quests pointing you toward them and require either stumbling into a random cave, farming a resource nobody explained to you or fishing in a specific hole until the universe decides you've suffered enough. These are the ones that the team atKingBoost gets the most confused questions about because players don't even know they exist until they see someone else riding one in Silvermoon.
Here's every hidden and secret mount in Midnight that we've confirmed so far, with exact coordinates and step-by-step walkthroughs.
Reins of the Insatiable Shredclaw — Voidstorm Puzzle Cave

This is probably the mount most people discover by accident. You're exploring Voidstorm, you wander into a cave at the Den of Predaxas and suddenly the game strips all your abilities and asks you to navigate an electrified obstacle course. No quest led you here and no NPC mentioned it, you just... found it. Or fell into it. Same thing in Voidstorm honestly.
Location: Cave entrance at approximately /way 48.90 78.31 in Voidstorm, Den of Predaxas. Head south from The Howling Ridge safe haven.
How it works: When you enter the back section of the cave, you get hit with a debuff called "Disruptive Ozone" that prevents you from using any spells or abilities. No blink, no dash, no mount. Just your character and their legs.
The room is filled with egg-like objects on the ground that periodically electrify sections of the floor in a consistent pattern. Seven of the eggs shock the ground over roughly 5 seconds in sequence. If you touch an electrified zone, you get stunned and teleported back to the entrance of the puzzle room.
The trick is to watch the pattern for a few seconds before moving. The electricity follows a fixed cycle. Wait for your section to clear, sprint through the gap, stop in a safe zone and wait for the next opening. Think of it like a really low-tech Frogger. Once you reach the end of the room, loot the Final Clutch of Predaxas treasure and the mount is yours. The mount is a guaranteed drop as well, no RNG involved.
Also awards 50 reputation with The Singularity and counts toward the Treasures of Voidstorm achievement. Not bad for dodging some sparks!
Tips: An easy way to get the treasure is to use a glider from a distance. Go up the road a bit and then jump and mid air use it. Enjoy your new mount!
Ancestral War Bear — Zul'Aman Spirit Trial

This one is cool because it's basically a mini quest chain hidden inside the open world with zero quest markers. You have to know where to start and what to do or you'll walk right past it. I walked right past it for two weeks before someone in guild chat mentioned it.
Location: Start at the Honored Warrior's Cache inside a large tree trunk at /way 46.83 81.86 in Zul'Aman.
How it works: Interact with the cache to receive a buff. This buff is your "key" to the next step. Now you need to travel to four Honored Warrior's Urns scattered across Zul'Aman, defeat the chosen warrior spirit at each one and collect their tribute.
Here are the four urn locations:
- Nalorakk's Chosen — /way 32.67 83.51
- Halazzi's Chosen — /way 34.56 33.46
- Jan'alai's Chosen — /way 54.75 22.39
- Akil'zon's Chosen — /way 51.55 84.88
Each fight is soloable. They're not pushovers if you're undergeared but they're not dungeon bosses either. Think beefy rare mob level. Kill all four, collect their items and return everything to the original Honored Warrior's Cache.
Loot the cache again and the Ancestral War Bear is yours.
Why it's hidden: There's no quest and no minimap icon. No NPC saying "hey go fight four ghost trolls." The tree trunk cache just sits there looking like every other interactive object in the zone. If you don't know it's there, you don't know it's there. The Amani lore callback is a nice touch too if you remember the original timed ZA bear runs from TBC. Blizzard knows exactly which emotional buttons they're pressing with this one.
Echo of Aln'sharan — Harandar Boss Summon

This mount comes from a boss you summon yourself using a currency that the game barely explains. It's not technically "secret" since it shows up in the mount journal but the acquisition method is obscure enough that most players don't figure it out without looking it up.
Location: Summon point at /way 66.15 25.47 in Harandar (Kuri area).
How it works: You need 500 Mysterious Skyshards. These drop from various activities across Harandar, mainly from treasure nodes, rare kills and zone events. The drop rate is steady enough that you'll accumulate them naturally if you're doing Harandar content regularly, but 500 takes a while if you're not specifically farming for it.
Once you have 500, travel to the summon point at Kuri and use them to call Aln'sharan. The boss spawns as a world boss encounter. It's soloable depending on your gear and class but bringing a friend or two doesn't hurt. The mount drops from the kill.
The catch: I haven't been able to confirm the exact drop rate. Some people report getting it first kill. Others have done multiple summons. Spending 500 Skyshards per attempt when the drop isn't guaranteed makes this one sting if you go dry. If anyone has data on the rate please share it because the community is still fuzzy on this.
Tips: Don't blow your Skyshards the second you hit 500. Check your gear, make sure you can actually handle the fight and consider grouping up for your first attempt. Dying to a boss you paid 500 currency to summon is a uniquely frustrating experience.
Ruddy Sporeglider — Harandar Resin Collection

This is a grind mount disguised as a puzzle mount. There's no quest, no achievement tracking and no progress bar. You just collect fragments until you have enough and then turn them in.
Location: Crystalized Resin Fragments are found around the lake at /way 40.0 21.4 in Harandar. Turn-in point is the Peculiar Cauldron at /way 40.7 28.1.
How it works: You need 150 Crystalized Resin Fragments. They appear as small lootable nodes around the lake and surrounding area. Not every node spawns at once and they're on respawn timers, so you can't just run a loop and grab all 150 in one sitting.
Collect 150, walk over to the Peculiar Cauldron, dump them in and the Ruddy Sporeglider is yours. Guaranteed reward, no RNG on the actual mount drop.
The tedious part: The respawn timers on the fragment nodes mean this is a multi-session farm unless you want to sit at the lake for hours waiting for nodes to reappear. Realistically you're looking at 3-5 sessions of 20-30 minutes each. Not terrible. Not thrilling. The kind of farm where you put on a podcast and zone out.
There's also competition. Other players farming the same nodes means fewer fragments per loop. Early morning or late night on your server tends to be the most productive window. Or just do a few laps every time you're in Harandar for other content and let the count build up passively. There's no deadline on this one.
Nether-Swept Drake — Voidstorm Fishing

I wrote about this mount in our 5 hardest mounts article and I stand by ranking it as the most psychologically damaging mount on the entire Midnight list. Not because it's hard. Because it's random. And the randomness is infinite.
Location: Void fishing holes across the Voidstorm zone.
How it works: You fish in the Void fishing holes until the mount appears in your catch. That's it, that's the entire guide.
No fishing skill requirement beyond being able to cast a line. You just fish and the universe decides when (if) you deserve the mount.
What we know about the drop rate: Almost nothing concrete. Fishing mount drop rates in WoW have historically been somewhere between "very low" and "insulting." Community estimates for previous fishing mounts (like the Sea Turtle) put the rate somewhere around 0.5-1%. There's no reason to believe this one is more generous.
How to access Void fishing holes: You need to unlock Voidstorm first. Talk to Magister Umbric in Silvermoon City, complete the short introductory quest chain (starts with "No Fear of the Dark") and the zone opens up. The Void fishing holes appear as distinct pools in the zone. You can't miss them visually, they look like the void ate the water.
Tips: This is a background activity. Do not sit down with the intention of farming this mount in one session because you will lose your mind. Fish while waiting for groups to form. Fish while doing Voidstorm world quests. Fish during queue times. Let the mount come to you because chasing it will only make the RNG feel more personal than it already does.
I've seen unconfirmed reports of people getting it within 200 casts and other reports of people exceeding 2,000. The variance is enormous and there's nothing you can do about it.
Bonus: Hexed Vilefeather Eagle — Zul'Aman Elite Grind

Didn't want to leave this one out even though it's more "unmarked" than truly "secret."
Location: Turn in at the Abandoned Ritual Skull at /way 44.72 44.10 in Zul'Aman.
How it works: Farm 1,000 Vile Essence from elite mobs in Zul'Aman. Bring the full stack to the Abandoned Ritual Skull. The eagle is your reward.
The grind: 1,000 Vile Essence is a LOT. Elite mobs don't drop huge stacks per kill. This is a multi-day farm unless you're doing nothing but killing elites in ZA for hours on end. Most people chip away at it while doing world quests and Prey content in the zone.
No quest points you toward the skull. No NPC mentions Vile Essence. You just have to know.

Still Missing Some?
Between the puzzle caves, currency grinds, boss summons and infinite fishing sessions, the hidden mount category in Midnight is one of the most time-consuming corners of the collection. None of them are mechanically hard (except maybe the Aln'sharan fight if you're undergeared) but they all require knowing where to go and what to do in a game that deliberately chose not to tell you.
If you're chasing these alongside the season-locked mounts from Mythic+, raids and PvP and running out of hours in the day, KingBoost can handle the achievement-based and combat-related mounts on your list so you can spend your actual playtime fishing in Void holes and dodging electric eggs in caves. Prioritize the stuff only you can do. Outsource the stuff a carry team can handle faster.
Good luck out there. Watch out for the ozone debuff.
