The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary Pre-Patch launches January 13 (NA) -14 (EU, OCE), 2026, and you've got 2-4 weeks to get everything sorted before the Dark Portal opens and you're headed into the wondrous world of Outland. This is when you quickly level alts with reduced XP requirements, test out your new TBC talents and abilities, farm gold and consumables while they're still cheap, stockpile materials and knock out reputation grinds that become easier with pre-patch's XP boost. Take time to learn a new profession, Jewelcrafting early and hold onto those dungeon quests for massive XP bonuses once you hit 60+. Most importantly, you get to test out two brand new races - Blood Elves and Draenei with each faction receiving a brand new class - Paladins for Horde and Shamans for Alliance. This guide covers all the important things related to The Burning Crusade Anniversary pre-patch.

Set an alarm for 15 minutes before maintenance ends. Servers often come up early, and being first online gives you advantages like:

- Head start on Pre-Patch power leveling
What Goes Live with Pre-Patch
✅ Blood Elves (Horde) & Draenei (Alliance) playable races
✅ Jewelcrafting profession unlocked
✅ Flying mounts available for purchase (Outland only)
✅ Guild Banks accessible from day 1
✅ NEW: Dual Spec system (swap talents out of combat)
✅ Talent Tree revamps for all classes
✅ Level cap remains 60 until full TBC launch
Outland zones remain locked during Pre-Patch, that means you cannot enter Hellfire Peninsula until the full expansion launches (estimated early February 2026).
Free TBC Anniversary Realm to Classic Era Realm Transfers
Before January 12, 2026, you can move your character from Anniversary realms to Classic Era for free. If you don't, your character will automatically move forward into TBC Anniversary and you won't be able to go back to Vanilla WoW.
If you're playing on a Hardcore realm, things work a bit differently. These realms won't move to TBC at all. You can either transfer to a regular server and continue into TBC (but lose your Hardcore status), transfer to a Classic Era Hardcore server to keep playing Vanilla with Hardcore rules, or simply do nothing and end up on Classic Era as a regular character. Whatever you choose, there's no reversing it, so make sure you decide before the deadline.
The Burning Crusade Anniversary New Races: Blood Elves & Draenei
The TBC Anniversary pre-patch unlocks two iconic races on January 13-14, 2026: Blood Elves for the Horde and Draenei for the Alliance. More importantly, these races break faction barriers-Horde finally gets Paladins and Alliance gains access to Shamans for the first time. With the increased XP buff active during pre-patch, you have 2-4 weeks to level these characters from 1-60 before Outland opens, giving you a fully raid-ready alt on launch day.

Why New Races Matter in TBC Anniversary
Unlike original TBC (2007), where Blood Elves and Draenei were locked until expansion launch, TBC Classic Anniversary releases them immediately in Pre-Patch. This creates a unique advantage:
✅ Level 1-60 during Pre-Patch
✅ Enter Outland at level 60 on TBC launch day
✅ Access exclusive racial abilities
✅ Experience new starting zones - Eversong Woods and Azuremyst Isle
✅ Secure popular character names before the rush
Pro Tip from Our Team: Blood Elf Paladins and Draenei Shamans will be the most competitive characters for guild recruitment. Leveling one during Pre-Patch puts you ahead of players who wait until Outland opens.Blood Elves: Horde's First Paladins
- Available Classes: Paladin, Mage, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Warlock
- Starting Zone: Eversong Woods → Ghostlands (levels 1-20)
- Capital City: Silvermoon City (also home to Jewelcrafting trainers)
Blood Elves are the survivors of the Burning Legion's devastation during the Third War. After the corruption of the Sunwell-their source of magical power- they renamed themselves Blood Elves in honor of their fallen.
Now aligned with the Horde, they seek vengeance against the demons who destroyed their homeland.
Blood Elf Racial Abilities
Arcane Torrent (Active Ability - 2 min cooldown)
| Effect | Silences all enemies within 8 yards for 2 seconds + restores 15 Energy/Mana/Runic Power |
| Best for | Paladins (mana restore), Rogues (energy restore), Priests, Mages |
| PvP Power | One of the strongest racial abilities in Arena—interrupts casting, restores resources |
| PvE Use | Extra mana in long raid fights, emergency interrupt on trash packs |
Why It's Strong: Arcane Torrent is an AoE silence-it hits ALL enemies near you. In Arena, this can silence a healer trying to save their partner. In raids, it's free mana every 2 minutes, so you essentially a free mana potion on cooldown.
Mana Tap (Passive Synergy)
| Effect | Drains 50 mana from target, stacks up to 3 times |
| Synergy | Each Mana Tap charge increases Arcane Torrent's mana restore |
| Practical Use | Minimal in TBC (mostly flavor ability) |
Arcane Affinity (Passive)
| Effect | +10 Enchanting skill |
| Gold Value | Reach 375 Enchanting faster = earlier access to endgame enchants |
| Who Benefits | Enchanters can disenchant higher-level items sooner |
Magic Resistance (Passive)
| Effect | +5 Arcane, Fire, Frost, Nature, and Shadow Resistance |
| PvE Value | Minor (every little bit helps in certain raid fights) |
| PvP Value | Slightly reduces spell damage taken |
Draenei: Alliance's First Shamans
- Available Classes: Shaman, Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Priest, Mage
- Starting Zone: Azuremyst Isle → Bloodmyst Isle (levels 1-20)
- Capital City: The Exodar (also home to Jewelcrafting trainers)
Draenei are exiles from their shattered homeworld, hunted across the cosmos by the Burning Legion. After crash-landing on Azeroth, they join the Alliance to fight the demons pursuing them. Mechanically, they're the only Alliance race with Shaman and their racial abilities make them exceptional for both PvE and PvP.
Draenei Racial Abilities
Gift of the Naaru (Active Ability - 3 min cooldown)
| Effect | Instant heal-over-time (HoT) that scales with your level/spell power |
| Healing | ~1,200-1,600 HP over 15 seconds at level 70 |
| Best for | ALL classes, it's a free self-heal |
| PvP Power | Can save your life in Arena when healers are CC'd |
| PvE Usage | Free heal during raid movement, reduces healer burden |
Why It's Strong: Gift of the Naaru is a smart heal-it automatically scales with your character's power. Tanks use it for emergencies, DPS use it to reduce healer strain, healers use it as a backup. It's universally useful.
Heroic Presence (Passive - AMAZING for DPS)
| Effect | +1% to hit chance for you and all party members within 30 yards |
| PvE Impact | MASSIVE. Reduces gear hit cap requirement by 1% |
| Who Benefits | Melee DPS (Warriors, Rogues, Hunters, Enhancement Shamans) |
| Gold Saved | Fewer hit-rating gems needed = more DPS-focused gems |
Why It's Broken: In TBC, DPS classes need 9% hit chance to never miss bosses. Heroic Presence reduces this to 8%, freeing up gear/gem slots for pure DPS stats (crit, haste, attack power). This makes Draenei the best Alliance race for physical DPS.
Inspiring Presence (Passive - NEW in TBC Anniversary)
| Effect | Increases reputation gains by a small amount (exact % not confirmed) |
| Value | Reach Revered/Exalted with factions faster |
| Best for | Players grinding Cenarion Expedition, Sha'tar, Lower City reputations |
Gemcutting (Passive - HUGE for Jewelcrafters)
| Effect | +5 Jewelcrafting skill |
| Gold Impact | Reach 375 Jewelcrafting faster = earlier access to epic gem cuts |
| Who Benefits | Anyone planning to take Jewelcrafting (TBC's most profitable profession) |
Why It Matters: Jewelcrafting recipes have skill requirements. +5 skill means you can learn/use recipes 5 points earlier, giving you a market advantage over competitors.
Shadow Resistance (Passive)
| Effect | +10 Shadow Resistance |
| PvE Value | Minor help in Shadow-heavy raids (Karazhan's Shade of Aran, Black Temple) |
| PvP Value | Reduces Warlock/Shadow Priest damage slightly |
The Burning Crusade Anniversary QoL Changes
The TBC Anniversary prepatch introduces several quality-of-life improvements before the full expansion launches. Leveling to 60 has been accelerated with increased experience gains, giving players time to prepare new characters or alts for Outland.
The UI Edit Mode now lets you fully customize your interface without addons, including resizing frames and repositioning elements. Guild Banks are available from the start, making it easier for guilds to organize resources ahead of the expansion.
Shamans are also getting an early buff with Heroism and Bloodlust now affecting the entire raid instead of just your party, with a 10-minute Sated debuff cooldown, reducing the need to stack multiple Shamans in raid compositions.
Dual Spec is another major addition, allowing players to save two talent builds and swap between them out of combat. This feature was originally introduced in Wrath of the Lich King, but Blizzard is bringing it early to TBC Anniversary.
With new talents and mechanics already in place, most players will find themselves noticeably more powerful during this period, with higher DPS and survivability across the board, making it easier to level alts and farm reputation.
The Burning Crusade Anniversary Pre-Patch Leveling Tips
The TBC prepatch will bring significant changes to how fast you can level your characters. While you can start leveling now, the prepatch reduces the amount of experience required to level, making it easier and faster to hit 60. For those currently leveling, getting to around level 26 or 27 before the prepatch is your best bet, as this lets you take full advantage of the experience reduction and increased quest rewards once it arrives.
Another notable change is that all dungeon boss drops in Classic content get upgraded to blue (rare) quality items with the prepatch, making dungeon runs more rewarding and worthwhile during the leveling process. Dungeon level ranges are also tightened so that if you're high enough level to start a dungeon, you're high enough to finish it without mobs becoming trivially easy or impossibly hard partway through.

If you're looking for the fastest leveling experience, it's a good idea to hold off on most leveling until the prepatch, especially if you're planning to boost a new Blood Elf or Draenei character once it drops.
Before TBC actually launches, complete up to 20 high-level quests but don't turn them in. Once the expansion goes live, hand them all in for a massive XP burst. It's a classic trick that puts you ahead of the pack while everyone else is fighting over Hellfire Peninsula mobs.
The Burning Crusade Anniversary Pre-Patch Professions and Gold Making Tips
Preparing your professions during the pre-patch can save you a lot of gold and give you a head start when TBC launches.
Jewelcrafting is a brand-new profession introduced with TBC and while you can't actually train it until the prepatch, smart players are stockpiling materials now. Green-quality gems, Elemental Earth, Water, and Shadow, along with Thorium and Mithril Bars will all be needed in large quantities. Getting these materials early means you won't be competing with everyone else once the profession goes live and prices explode.
For gold-making, focus on materials that are guaranteed to rise in value. Primal Shadow and Fire, Large Brilliant Shards, and herbs like Dreamfoil, Plaguebloom, and Black Lotus will all see major price increases.
Consumables like Free Action Potions, Swiftness Potions and Greater Fire or Nature Protection Potions tend to double in price as players prepare for TBC content.
On the topic of Alchemy, Blizzard has confirmed that Terocone - a notoriously scarce herb required for Flask of Relentless Assault, Haste Potion, and Heroic Potion - will be easier to farm in TBC Anniversary. The respawn rate has been increased and additional nodes have been added throughout Terokkar Forest, which should help ease one of the biggest bottlenecks Alchemists faced in the original expansion.
Aim to have around 6,000 to 8,000 gold saved up before the expansion launches - 1,000 gold for basic flying, 5,000 for epic flying, and another 1,000 to 2,000 for training, crafted gear and consumables.
Pro Tip From Our Team: If you're unsure which profession to prioritize, pair Alchemy with Herbalism on an alt. Flasks and potions are always in demand!
