Your rating is calculated based on which dungeons you complete, at what key level and how far above or below the timer you finish. Each dungeon has a score for your best timed run and your best untimed run. Higher keys completed faster mean higher rating gains.

It depends on the key level. A +2 is manageable for most players who have done normal and heroic dungeons before. The difficulty scales up fast though and by the time you are pushing keys in the range that actually moves rating meaningfully, you are dealing with affixes, tighter timers and enemies that will kill someone who is not paying attention. The keys required to reach 2000+ rating are genuinely challenging to pug consistently which is the main reason people use a boost service for this.

Keystone Master at 2000 rating rewards the Calamitous Carrion mount. Keystone Legend at 3000 gets you the Convalescent Carrion. Both are seasonal so they are only available during Midnight Season 1.

The Great Vault is a weekly reward chest that unlocks every reset. You get one loot choice from one M+ run, a second choice after four runs and a third after eight. The item level of what is inside scales with your highest completed key that week, capping at 272 ilvl. So the more keys you run and the higher you push, the better your vault choices are on reset day.
