Imperator Averzian Guide: Voidspire Boss 1 Strategy for WoW Midnight
5 min read
Key Takeaways
- Imperator Averzian is the first boss in the Voidspire raid, WoW Midnight Season 1
- The fight is built around a 3x3 territory control grid. If Averzian claims three tiles in a row, he wipes the raid
- You can prevent tile claims by using Umbral Collapse soaks to destroy 2 of 3 Abyssal Voidshapers each wave
- Kill priority: Abyssal Voidshaper first, then Shadowguard Stalwarts, then Voidmaws
- Tanks swap at 8 to 10 stacks of Blackening Wounds. Adds rush toward the tank with the most stacks
- Lust/Hero on pull. Recommended comp: 2 tanks, 2 to 5 healers depending on group size and the rest are DPS.

Fight Overview
This encounter is tic tac toe. Averzian steadily claims tiles on a 3x3 grid through Shadow's Advance. Each wave spawns three Abyssal Voidshapers on three tiles. If a Voidshaper's Void Rupture cast completes, that tile is permanently claimed. If Averzian ever claims three tiles in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line, he triggers March of the Endless and the raid wipes instantly.
The good news is you get two Umbral Collapse soaks per wave. Each soak destroys one Voidshaper and prevents that tile from being claimed. If executed properly, only one tile is lost per wave.
Your raid leader needs to call which two tiles to save each cycle based on the current board state. Corner and edge tiles are safer to lose than the center.
Core Mechanics
The Grid: Shadow's Advance
Each cycle, three Abyssal Voidshapers spawn and start casting Gathering Darkness. When the cast completes, that tile is claimed. Claimed tiles create Dark Tears that spawn add waves. The more tiles claimed, the stronger the waves, creating a soft enrage over time.
Soaking: Umbral Collapse
A random player gets a soak circle. Damage is split among all players inside it. If the circle is placed on top of a Voidshaper, it kills the add and prevents the tile from being claimed. You get two of these back to back each wave.
The play is: first soak target runs to the called marker on top of a Voidshaper, everyone stacks to split damage. As soon as the first soak explodes, the whole raid sprints to the second marker and soaks again. Two Voidshapers destroyed, one tile claimed. Rinse and repeat.
Boss Buff: Imperator's Glory
If Averzian stands within 10 yards of a claimed tile, he gains 75% increased damage and 90% reduced damage taken. On Heroic, his adds also gain this buff if they are near him. Keep the boss away from claimed tiles at all times.
Tank Debuff: Blackening Wounds
Every melee hit reduces the tank's max HP by 4% for 20 seconds. Stacks. Swap at 8 to 10 stacks depending on comfort. When adds spawn, they rush toward the tank with the highest stacks, so that tank needs to be positioned away from the boss and away from claimed tiles.
Raid Damage: Dark Upheaval
Constant shadow damage ticking on the whole raid throughout the fight. Gets worse as more tiles are claimed. Healers need to stabilize quickly after every Umbral Collapse soak.
Dodge Mechanics
Void Fall knocks all players back and spawns circles on the ground, a standard dodge mechanic.
Oblivion's Wrath launches spikes from the boss that fire in a direction after a short delay. Watch where they point and move.
Add Priority
This is a cleave fight and add management determines whether you win or lose.
- Abyssal Voidshaper (top priority): Kill before it reaches 100 energy. At full energy it transforms into an Obsidian Endwalker which is significantly harder to deal with
- Shadowguard Stalwart / Voidbound Annihilator: Interrupt Pitch Bulwark immediately. If this cast goes off, every add gets a massive absorb shield and the wave drags out
- Voidmaws: Cleave these down. At 35% health they start crawling toward the nearest claimed tile to heal to full. Stun or slow them before they reach it
Role Tips
Tanks: Swap at 8 to 10 stacks of Blackening Wounds. The off tank with high stacks should position away from the boss because adds rush toward that player. Never let the boss sit near claimed tiles or his adds.
DPS: Always swap to Voidshapers immediately when they spawn. Delayed target switches are the number one cause of wipes on this boss. Interrupt Pitch Bulwark from Stalwarts. Kill Voidmaws before they retreat and heal.
Healers: Plan for burst from Umbral Collapse soaks, constant rot from Dark Upheaval and extra instability when add waves overlap with board mechanics. Tanks can spike unexpectedly when Averzian gains Imperator's Glory.

FAQ
How does the tic tac toe grid work on Imperator Averzian?
Each wave of Shadow's Advance spawns 3 Voidshapers on 3 tiles. You use 2 Umbral Collapse soaks to destroy 2 of them. Only 1 tile is claimed per wave. If 3 tiles form a line the raid wipes. Your raid leader calls which tiles to save based on the board.
What happens if Averzian stands on a claimed tile?
He gains Imperator's Glory: 75% more damage dealt and 90% less damage taken. On Heroic, his nearby soldiers also get this buff. Keep him away from claimed tiles always.
When should tanks swap on Averzian?
At 8 to 10 stacks of Blackening Wounds. The tank with the highest stacks becomes the target adds rush toward, so position that tank away from the boss and the group.
What is the lust timing for Averzian?
On pull. The fight is straightforward enough that front loading damage gives the best results.
